Just Because I Can

My policy has always been that the best way to make fun of someone is to turn their insult back on them. So, from now on, I'm a proud menstruating she-devil (or at least until I hit menopause anyway. )

I was part of the second co-ed class at Claremont Men's, now Claremont McKenna College. A few of us gurl-types used to call ourselves the "ACBs" - for "Aggressive, Castrating Bitches."

Phenomenal! Phenomenal woman! Heh, menstruating she-devil. Has a certain ring to it.

Forgive us our sin of omission, failing to remain a she-devil.

Lorraine, you are a devil! Caneel

There's no doubt about it. The blood scares them all to death, especially since we famously "bleed five days every month and don't die."

I realized years ago that it was some men's atavistic fear of all that is elemental to women's sexuality that fuels their white-hot opposition to abortion: women's inherent power over creation, birth, and death - all of it accompanied by blood, and none of which they can control.

Which probably goes a long way toward explaining why the leading cause of death among pregnant women is homicide.

Here is the thing that always scares me to pieces: I believe that there is more misogyny on the left than on the right. I am so scared even to say that, but if it goes unsaid it can't be analyzed.

tomato,

I think you may be right. I think there is more sexism in the left. I am not sure why, except the men on the left have to deal wtth the demands of women more than men on the right do.
They are pissed off that while the allow us some power in the party we aren't satisfied with the bones we are thrown.
